First Degree Reiki Retreat in the Riviera Maya
In July 2012, Margarita Camarena and Project Mayan Encounter co-hosted our very first Reiki Retreat in Playa del Carmen. It came together just beautifully and the whole process was a harmonious flow. We had two Level I participants from San Francisco and three local participants from Playa del Carmen – including myself.
We launched the journey with a visit to the ancient site of Coba, followed by a Temazcal (sweat lodge) in the village of Tres Reyes. Feeling purified after the Temazcal, we embarked on the 3-day class at the New Moon phase. The upstairs studio at the Palapa Suuk in Playa del Carmen was the perfect location for this.
We closed the experience with a boat ride deep inside the Sian Ka’an biosphere reserve, and a float in the crystal clear canals. There was extra time for a visit to the beach in Xpu Ha and to Tulum. Everyone took home their First Degree Reiki certificate, lots of great memories, and new impressions. We were all prepared for new beginnings! View photos of the 2012 Reiki Retreat on Facebook.
About Margarita:
Margarita Camarena is a graduate of the SF School of Massage and Bodywork. She became Reiki Master-Teacher under RMT Dr. Eric Rubin. In 1996, she graduated from the Berkeley Psychic Institute and two years later she completed her B.A. and B.S. at UC Davis in the fields of Art Studio and Environmental Design. Bodywork and Reiki have become a natural extension of the work she has been doing over the years working with color, energy, spirit, and creative visualization.
At the time of editing the original post from 2012, it must be added that over the recent years, Margarita has studied traditional curanderismo – an ancient indigenous healing art – under the masters in Mexico. She is a bodyworker and teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she incorporates this knowledge in her work today.
